The advantages of FPC

A flexible printed circuit board is a printed circuit made of a flexible insulating substrate and has many advantages that a rigid printed circuit board does not have:

(1) It can be freely bent, coiled, and folded. Arbitrary arrangements can be made according to the requirements of space layout, and can be freely moved and retracted in three-dimensional space to achieve integration of component assembly and wire connection;

(2) The use of FPC can greatly reduce the volume and weight of electronic products, and the application of electronic products to high density, miniaturization, and high reliability needs to be developed. Therefore, FPC has been widely used in aerospace, military, mobile communications, laptop computers, computer peripherals, PDAs, digital cameras and other fields or products;

Disadvantages of FPC

(1) High one-time initial cost: Since the soft PCB is designed and manufactured for special applications, the cost for the initial circuit design, wiring, and photo base is higher. Unless there is a special need to use a soft PCB, it is usually best not to use it when it is used in small quantities.

(2) It is more difficult to change and repair the soft PCB. Once the soft PCB is made, it must be changed from the base diagram or the programmed flash program, so it is not easy to change. The surface is covered with a protective film, which needs to be removed before the repair and restored after the repair. This is a difficult task.

(3) Restricted size: Soft PCBs are usually manufactured using a batch process when they are not yet available. Therefore, they are limited by the size of production equipment and cannot be made very long and wide.

(4) Improper operation and easy damage: Improper operation of the connected personnel may cause damage to the soft circuit. The soldering and rework must be performed by trained personnel.
